LAST week was the build-up to our June long weekend tournament, so Wednesday was the last chance for some players to get some match practice in.
Colin Lang was a clear winner with a good score of 42 points from Richard Chapman with 39 points.
Then on Thursday the ladies played the Doris Chambers qualifier. Sue Waterhouse and Nicki Atkinson were the winners with 37 points, followed by Helen Rix and Anne Dwyer with 35 points. Helen and Anne will represent Port Fairy at the final in Melbourne later in the year.
Saturday was the first day of the tournament. The weather was very kind to us for the weekend and that was reflected in some excellent scores. On Saturday the locals were on target with Chris Dunn (A grade) Chris Johnston (B grade) and David McCosh (C grade) taking out the gross awards. While the nett sections were won by Troy Richardson (A grade) Anthony Foy from Ballarat (B grade) and Peter McMillan (C grade). In the women's event Alison Sinclair, from Warrnambool, won the gross and Denise Harman won the nett.
On Sunday the visitors were too good with Noel Harrington and Tony Foy, from Ballarat, winning the mens 4BBB. In the mixed pinehurst L. Jennings and K. Davis, from Sanctuary Lakes, were far too good.
We did have some local success with Andrew and Anne Dwyer recording the best mixed Pinehurst gross score for the day.
The final day on Monday was an individual stableford event. The men's under 55 was won by Paul Clarke, from Warrnambool, with a wonderful score of 42 points. The 55-and-over section was won by Geoff Waldron, from Ballarat, with 37 points. The women's event was won by Di Goodall from Warrnambool with the score of the day of 43 points.
With the three-day tournament a great success we will look at extending it next year to accommodate more people and events. Thank you to all the sponsors and volunteers for the weekend.
