New art gallery for Port Fairy

PORT Fairy's reputation as a fine arts hub has been strengthened, with the latest gallery to open proving to be a successful enterprise.

The Limestone Gallery opened in March, and in the ensuing two months has quickly established itself as a gallery with a difference.

The gallery is owned and operated by Port Fairy artist Meg Finnegan, and the majority of pieces displayed are her own sculptures .

Ms Finnegan, who had been one of the artists in residence at the Whalebone Gallery for the past 11 years, said she felt it was time to spread her creative wings. "It was hard to leave Whalebone but this was chance to have my work studio and a gallery for my art in the one place," Ms Finnegan said.

"I don't see my gallery as opposition to others in the town, I see it as adding to making Port Fairy an even better art destination than it already is.

"Art is a real attraction to the town and the more galleries and studios we have, the more people are going to come to the town for a great art experience."

The Limestone Gallery is located at 506 Princes Highway, Port Fairy.
