WHILE the nursing home component of the Koroit Health Services has closed down, the building which housed the aged care facility is being maintained in preparation for its next purpose.
With all residents now gone from the nursing home a new staff structure has been put in place.
Some administration staff have been retained to oversee the closing off the facility and to explore options for its future use. Maintenance staff also remain in place with two house keepers and caretakers appointed to ensure the building is kept up to a high standard as future uses are sought out.
Koroit Health Services Acting CEO and Director of Nursing Michelle Finnigan said the appointment of the housekeepers and caretakers were important ones.
"They will live in the Nursing Home with one couple looking after the upkeep of the west wing and the other the east wing" she said.
"This will ensure the building is safe and secure and it will be keep fresh and vibrant to help get ready for future opportunities."
Ms Finnigan said expressions of interest for the use of the building would be advertised nationally early in the new year. She said these expressions of interests will not be restricted to the health field and that she expects some exciting opportunities to be explored through this process.
It has been a whirlwind ride for staff and residents since it was announced in September that the nursing home was going to close down due to it being no longer viable. The 20 residents who were in the nursing home at the time of the closure announcement have now all being placed in other aged care facilities.
"It is wonderful to have the residents settled into their new homes in time for Christmas and we are very happy with the fact the residents have all gone to wonderful aged care facilities.
"And the nursing, kitchen and cleaning staff have also found some wonderful new opportunities and they are now free to move onto the next stage of their careers."
